Eileen Chai
Eileen Chai is a transportation professional with a strong interest in transportation safety and planning. Currently, she works as a transportation assistant at DKS Associates, where she contributes to improving transportation systems and safety throughout the region. Eileen’s involvement with ITE began during her time at Oregon State University in 2019, and she has continued to be actively engaged since. Ellie Simpson
Hello all, my name is Ellie Simpson and I am so excited to have the opportunity to run for the Secretary-Treasurer position with Oregon ITE. My involvement in ITE began in 2016, when I joined the student chapter at Oregon State University while pursuing my Masters degree in Transportation. During my two years in school, I served as the secretary for our student chapter and was responsible for planning and executing many of our events. One of our greatest achievements as a student chapter was hosting the 2018 Student Leadership Summit in Corvallis. This event was a resounding success, and was highly praised by district volunteers as well as the many Oregon-area professionals that donated their time and effort to help mentor students. During my time as a student, I was especially thankful for the Oregon Section board and committee leadership for their support of our student chapter and would love the opportunity to pay back this support as secretary-treasurer. From 2021 to 2023, I served as the Western District ITE managing editor. This role allowed me the opportunity to stay connected to the greater ITE community as well as the Oregon Section. As editor, I was responsible for gathering content for the monthly e-newsletter as well as composing and editing the biannual printed newsletter, each sent to over 3,000 Western District members. I have been working at HDR for the last 6 years. My work includes a wide range of projects, but primarily focuses on concept development for innovative intersections, corridors, and interchanges for projects all over the country. My favorite projects are those that use innovative intersection treatments to support transit infrastructure and priority. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my two cats and my husband. Currently my focus has been on trying to gain a green thumb and keep all my plants in my yard alive and thriving. I am most excited about the Oregon ITE Secretary-Treasurer role because of the opportunity to more directly support the Oregon section and all of the fantastic transportation professionals and students that are section members. As someone who has attended many great Oregon area events (happy hours, lunch seminars, Winter Workshop, and my favorite – Traffic Bowl!) and benefited from the technical information, social engagement, and networking, I would like to offer my time at this role to support the continuation of these great events and furthering the development of the chapter. |
