​Oregon ITE SimCap Event: TSS Aimsun Overview and Networking Luncheon

For the third event of our DTA presentation series, Transport Simulation Systems (TSS)  provided an opportunity inviting the Oregon ITE SimCap community to attend their North America Aimsun Users’ Meeting, free of charge right here in Portland!  The Aimsun modeling software is a single, integrated, multi-resolution platform that provides users the ability to move from macroscopic to mesoscopic to microscopic modeling with provided feedback between each modeling level. One strength of Aimsun is the mesoscopic modeling element with dynamic traffic assignment (DTA), which has been a core element of the software for over 13 years and has been used on projects throughout the world. You may also register for the full conference and attend the evening reception following the User's Meeting for free to Oregon ITE Members. More about the Aimsun training occurred on June 16th, 2017 can be found Here!

OTCDC Meeting

We had a great program during this annual Oregon Traffic Control Devices Committee (OTCDC) meeting. The morning started with discussions on traffic control devices and then ITE hosted an afternoon lunch and various presentation subjects, which included:

April Luncheon

We had a fascinating program during this luncheon. Chris Wright from ODOT helped us learn about their new TripCheck Traveler Information Portal Enhancement and how the program will integrate data from traffic signal controllers and connected vehicle data, and help improve information sharing.

Emily Tritsch from PBOT illustrated Get Portland Moving, a program designed to help coordinate traffic control and information efforts across local agencies.  She also spoke about the new partnership between the City of Portland and mapping application Waze. See full agenda here. 

SimCap - INRO Dynameq Simulation Luncheon

​Michael Mahut, VP - Traffic Simulation at INRO, presented the Dynameq Multiscale Traffic Simulation software. The presentation provided an overview of Dynameq's simulation and dynamic traffic assignment (DTA) capabilities, including modeling and visualization features. Examples were provided from a number of Dynameq projects in North America. See full agenda here. 

​SimCap - PTV Mesoscopic with Visum and Vissim

​PTV Vissim is famous for its microsimulation abilities, but you may not know that Vissim now offer mesoscopic level analysis.  Chetan Joshi from PTV Group will be presenting on the concepts and fundamentals of dynamic simulation based assignment (meso) within Visum. Additionally, the linkage to meso assignment in Vissim will also be discussed. The presentation will provide users with a perspective on areas of applications of meso assignment.

Oregon ITE Happy Hour

What’s better after the holiday weekend than a wonky night of revelry?  Come join us for a drink or two and some two-way (left turn lane) conversation that never yields!  Be ready for a peak two hours of traffic related puns and, of course, ITE has the first round(about) covered. ​

Oregon ITE 25th Annual Bill Kloos Traffic Bowl!
Date: Thursday, November 17th, 2016
Where: Embassy Suites, 319 SW Pine Street, Portland
Time: Doors open at 6:00 PM for social hour and registration check-in. Dinner service will begin at 7:00 PM, with Jeopardy beginning at 7:30 PM.
 The Bill Kloos Traffic Bowl turns 25 this year and it's going to be the biggest event yet! Please join us in watching transportation engineering students from Oregon & Washington duke it out over transportation trivia to see who gets to take home the coveted trophy and the claim the biggest novelty check! Here are the results:

October Luncheon - Smart Cities

We're excited to bring you a fascinating program for our next luncheon that explores the Smart Cities grant proposals. Peter Koonce, Traffic Signals, Street Lighting, and ITS Manager for the Portland Bureau of Transportation will discuss the city’s experience applying for the grant. We will also have Ben Pierce from HDR, the chief architect and a key contributor to the successful Smart City application for the City of Columbus, Ohio. Please join us as we learn about the ins and outs of these applications and the development of technologies that will help make our cities smarter. ​

Oregon ITE Golf for People that Don't Golf

Time: noon (first round on ITE!) - first tee off at 1:00pm

Cost:  $20 ite member and non-ITE member; $10 student
 
are you tired of all the traffic techy meetings, looking for the perfect opportunity to hang out with a bunch of ite folks in a social setting? Well we have the event for you! Ite will be hosting a "golf for people that don't golf" tournament at mcmenamins edgefield. Yes you can still be a golfer and come to the event, but we won't be keeping score!  This is about having fun and socializing with other great members of oregon ite!  This is a pitch and putt style 20 hole par 3 course. We have a limited amount of tee off times so start rallying your team of four. Or if you want to enter as a single person or a duo let us know and we will pair you up with other groups. Remember balls and clubs are an additional charge at the event; you may bring your own. And, as always, get there early because the first round is on ITE!

Traffic Panel Discussion and Happy Hour
Date: Thursday, August 4th, 2016

Oregon ITE will be hosting a summer happy hour that will begin with an expert panel discussion with Jessica Horning (ODOT), Roger Geller (PBOT), Hermanus Steyn (Kittelson) and Tina Bailey (City of Hillsboro). The event will include an introduction from past ITE’s Senior International Director for our ITE Western District. There is no registration fee, but the first round is on ITE if you RSVP. ​
